Motricity Moving Headquarters to Seattle Area

Durham- Jim Goodmon, President and CEO of Capitol Broadcasting Company, Inc. - the developers of American Tobacco - issued this statement regarding Motricity's decision to move its headquarters to the Seattle area:

Motricity has been an excellent partner with American Tobacco - forward thinking, creative, innovative - a good fit for downtown Durham. Before renovation began, the Hill building was the most dilapidated among all the American Tobacco buildings. It has been a delight to see the transformation into an architectural showpiece. The Motricity space is always one of the first stops on any tour of the American Tobacco Campus.

We think Motricity is a great organization and they will be missed. This is a high-tech company, growing fast through mergers and acquisitions. Whenever Motricity has acquired another company, we have worried about where the headquarters is going to be. We understand the strategic decision to relocate where the combined company's primary technology platform was developed.

Our thoughts, especially, are with the employees who will be laid off. Not only are they our friends, they are a group of highly-skilled, technically creative professionals that any company would be thrilled to employ.

Downtown Durham has more than its fair share of high-tech, innovative companies - McKinney, Bronto Software, Square 1 Bank, Intersouth Partners, Smith Breeden, and 43 others just on the American Tobacco Campus. Before Motricity's departure, American Tobacco was nearly 99% leased. Like the rest of American Tobacco, the Motricity space is unique and creative with multiple upgrades and a distinctive architectural design, setting it far above any other office environment. Other creative class, high-tech, innovative companies will find it highly desirable. We're confident that Struever Bros., Eccles and Rouse (the owners of the building), working with Motricity, will have plenty of suitors vying for what is arguably the most desirable commercial space in the Triangle.
