AMERICAN TOBACCO & WUNC-FM ANNOUNCE TEN FREE CAN'T-MISS CONCERTS
Back Porch Music on the Lawn Presented by Whole Foods Market Returns with a Rootsy Roar
(DURHAM) -- Music on the Lawn, a near-sacred spring/summer Triangle tradition, is back and better than ever. American Tobacco teams with WUNC-FM and its popular Back Porch Music series to deliver ten great shows (described below), all free, at A.T.'s amphitheater on select Fridays at 6pm kicking off April 30 with Chatham County Line and wrapping up Oct. 8 with an all-star blues showcase.
This year's schedule marks the first time Back Porch Music has booked all the acts for Music on the Lawn, lending the annual event a sharp focus on authentic, not to mention danceable, roots music. Also for the first time, Whole Foods Market (www.wholefoodsmarket.com), presenting sponsor of Back Porch Music on the Lawn, will offer a fine selection of natural and organic food during each concert.
The partnerships demanded a new name for 2010: Back Porch Music on the Lawn Presented by Whole Foods.
Back Porch Music will feature the series' artists during its broadcasts -- Fridays and Saturdays, 8pm-midnight, and on Sundays, 8-11pm. "These artists are mainstays on Back Porch Music, which is our longest running program," says David Brower, interim program director at WUNC (91.5 FM in the Triangle). "Not only are these shows going to be a fun Friday night, but it will be a culturally rich experience as well. All of these artists are in some way working with the rich musical traditions of North Carolina."
Adds Keith Weston, host of Back Porch Music: "First, there was the Summer of Love, then the Summer of George (on "Seinfeld"), but this is the Summer of Back Porch Music. We've got ten outstanding bands on the lawn that will knock your socks or sandals off. Come spend the evening with us as the sun sets over Durham and enjoy a rocking good time, Back Porch Music style, of course."
Concert-goers will enjoy free music on A.T.'s outdoor lawn flanked by eateries such as Cuban Revolution, Tyler's Taproom, Mellow Mushroom and Saladelia.
"At American Tobacco, we aim to be a place where you can come to work, come to get a drink and a good meal, and come to hear great music," says Michael Goodmon, vice president for real estate at Capitol Broadcasting Company, which owns A.T.
